Thoughts on A1 Mini 3D Printer

24 Jun 26 (1mo ago)

Probably not much a recommendation since this is my first 3D Printer and most likely I don't any better. But still would like a write up to keep my thoughts up.

  • actually thinking of buying a closed x y printer. just generally, i don't really like buying entry level equipment mainly because I can quickly get old out of it. that's just me knowing myself in buying cameras, laptops, cellphones, etc.
  • but the close x y printer was a bit expensive more than my budget and ended up being tempted with the a1 mini because of the sale timing.
  • i'm still planning to buy another closed x y printer but i have to say and I have to say, I don't think I'll grow it over soon. it is more than enough for what i want to explore
  • it is limited by its size (small) and its format (open/bed slinger) but it is not really throttled. it runs the same speed as the otehr higher ends and even if it has half accellaration than the other models, in realit, it doesn't matter as much because the toolhead doesn't reallly travel that much specially if you space your models within each other.
  • i don't buy the ams but you can still print multi color with some wrangling which is more than fine with me.
  • also another concern is with all the new realeases, is a1 mini already outdated bbeing released in 2023? if you are trying to compare specs wise, it kinda is but for what it can do, it is still more than enough. can print PLA, PETG and even TPU, which probably 99% of the time you will be printing for a hobbyist.

Caveat. The one i think i would have like if htere is a mark II or version II is the one like in the ewer flashforge xd 5 where there you can the toolhead separate bite is 4 already in the toolhead. The bite filament in a1 mini is only 1 but you 4 slots. so you have to manually put and pull. color version.

of course, there is an option of using AMS or AMS Lite but for that price, I'll probably just buy another a1 mini wink wink

not sure about other units but the timelapse sucks. it has to go the toolhead homebase every layer so it will take so much time than usual. also you will get stringyness. on your prints. and i'm still printing PLA not PETG.

  • 3d printers print fast didn't know that. i mean i see it in videos but it is really fast but not all of them. it prints fast sideways but not upways or up and down for bed slinger.

  • use the flashing lights as indicator of success or fail. i don't if its fail or not up until i i take into closer or through the slicer. sometimes its obvious and sometimes it is not especially when it is already near completion. you might take it off the plate thinking it is already complete.

  • what i have done so far and proabbly will not in the future. printing all night. most of my prints are supervised and if not only a max of 3 hours beng left unattended. not yet confident.
