Led Light Strips

01 Feb 26 (3mo ago)

I heard about Led Light Strips previously for interior set-ups or even for computer setup. For aesthetics usually. But I'm started to get interested on it for shadow light box. And well, it's a bit more complicated that I thought it would be.

Some thoughs so far:

  • There are cuttable and not cuttable light strips. Cuttable usually have this "COB" naming
  • Some have different wattage. Like the the 5V or the 110V or the 220V. And the voltage must match to the light + power supply. Otherwise, it will burn the light.
  • Isn't this obvious? Not quite since there are a lot of item listings where you can buy them separately.
  • Can have Smart and Dumb RGB. Th Dumb is just one color throughout the strip while Smart can have multiple color. For my case, the dumb will just more than suffice. Sample model number for Smart is WS2812B and for dumb is 5050. I like researching for generic model number rather than whitelisted products.
  • Some Led Strips have a wireless controller to switch lights. Could for work for me. Easier to test different colors on an already setup shadow light box.
  • The LEDS fidelity (or high quality visual) can also be based on density. Meaning how much lights per meter. The cheapest is the 15 lights per meter and can go as far as 200+ lights per meter.
  • Manageable midground is 60 lights per meter and just use a diffuser to make it look better. Diffuser is like a denoiser in rendering I guess haha.
  • There are LED strip that has built-in diffuser.
