Pepakura Info Dump

  • For size, if there is not much details the maximum size will be important but for those with many details (many polygons), the minimum size is more important. Because if the paper is too small, it will be harder to combine them.
  • For creating 3D Paper Craft. There are Blender add-ons like PolyZamboni" or the Export Paper Model` but Pepakura is a more dedicated one. Its paid though
  • Was hoping it can use the existing UV of the model but it cannot
  • It can unfold strip of polygons but not a grid of polygons without having some tears.
  • For now, I'm workflow is 3D Model > Separate All Faces then 2D Layout>Edit Mode>Join/Disjoin Faces. Easier to create the strips that way
  • There is no robust packing algorithm in Pepakura unlike in UV Editing in other DCC. The closest is just use 2D Layout > Recalculate Parts Layout then manually rotate/move the parts
  • There is File>Export comand or File>Print PDF but for cutter machine it just better to have Cut > Export DXF File to Silhouette Studio. This can still be used in cricut and the such.
  • There is no symmetrical selection.
  • One of the interesting thing is setting a scale like in 2D Layout > Scale. It's a simple command but its helpful. Not only it resizes the 3D model but it also resizes the 2D Layout to specific number of pages. In DCC, you can resize a 3D model you want, but the UV will remain as is.
